Tinubu pledges support for W’Africa’s democracy as Guinea-Bissau celebrates 50 independence

President Bola Tinubu participated in the commemoration of Guinea-Bissau’s 50th Independence Anniversary and Armed Forces Day on Thursday.

The President, alongside other heads of state and government, joined in the festivities in Bissau, the country’s capital.

Tinubu was warmly received by Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Embaló, and with them were the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa and Gambia President, Adama Barrow.

Tinubu pledged Nigeria’s support for democracy in West Africa and the world at large.

“Today, I joined President Umaro Embaló of Guinea Bissau and other world leaders to commemorate the country’s 50th Independence in Bissau.

“Nigeria remains committed to supporting peace and democracy not only in Guinea Bissau, but the rest of West Africa, and the world,” the president said in a post on X via @officialABAT on Thursday.

Tinubu returned to Abuja on Thursday from his one-week engagements in Saudi Arabia and Guinea Bissau.

The Boeing 737 jet conveying Tinubu and his entourage arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, minutes past 7 p.m. (local time).
